We explore why courage is not the absence of fear but obedience in the middle of it, and how God’s presence reframes leadership choices. We share simple, steady ways to act with conviction when outcomes are unclear.

• Redefining courage as obedience with God’s presence
• Reading and applying Joshua 1:9 to daily leadership
• Shifting from popularity to values-based decisions
• Examples of quiet courage in hard conversations and boundaries
• Moving from what if I fail to what if I obey
• Stewarding courage like peace, joy, and clarity
• Taking one small yes as a practical start

Welcome And Today’s Focus

SPEAKER_00

Welcome back to Accentuate Life, Everyday Leadership for Kingdom Living. I'm Dr. Rita and I'm grateful you are here. Today we're talking about something every leader, every believer, and every person stepping into purpose will eventually need. And that, my friend, is courage. Courage is often misunderstood. Many people believe courage means the absence of fear, but biblically, courage is not the absence of fear, it is obedience in the presence of it. Joshua 1 9 tells us, have I not commanded you, be strong and courageous, do not be afraid, do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. Notice that God didn't say you wouldn't feel fear. He said, I will be with you. To accentuate courage means we intentionally choose to highlight God's presence more than our uncertainty. Courage is required when the decision is uncomfortable, the step is unfamiliar, the outcome is unclear, and the obedience costs something. As leaders, courage shows up in quiet ways. Speaking truth when it will be easier to stay silent, making a decision that aligns with values, not popularity, stepping forward even when confidence feels fragile. Courage is not loud, it is steady. It is steady. It is steady. Courage doesn't always look like bold decorations. Sometimes it looks like simply saying yes, Lord, when everything in you wants to hesitate. That means fear doesn't get to define our direction. When we accentuate courage, we shift our focus from what if I fail to what if I obey? From what will people think to what God is asking of me? Courage is a daily decision, and like peace, joy, and clarity, it must be stewarded. The more we act in courage, the more confident we become, not in ourselves, but in God's faithfulness. Here's a question to reflect on this week. Where is God inviting you to be courageous right now? Is it in a conversation? A commitment? A boundary? A step forward you've been postponing. Courage often begins with one small yes. If fear has been whispering louder than faith, I want to remind you, God's presence is greater than your hesitation. You do not need to feel fully ready to move forward. You simply need to trust the one who is already ahead of you. Thank you for spending this time with me on Accentuate Life Podcast. Until next time, lead with intention, live with purpose, and let's continue to accentuate the leader within.
